The Honest  Space Penguins was made for the 2020 GTMK Game Jam in 48 hours, with the theme "Out of Control".

About the game:

Help four penguins do their best to manage their spaceship, but everything feels like it's going out of control ! Each penguin has their own responsibilities, and one penguin has found himself distracted by a visual novel... Will you be able to stay alive long enough to discover the true ending to the story ?

Controls:

< Press any key to start >
Penguin 1: Move the mouse around to block incoming asteroids to defend the spaceship
Penguin 2: Use the WASD keys to manage the penguin robot. Dodge the asteroids and put out the fires on the ship.
Penguin 3: Fill in the puzzle to fix penguin robots. (resolution issues - putting game in full screen makes it somewhat more visible)
Penguin 4: Choose the option for the visual novel that you feel most strongly towards!

This is our first game jam game, so feedback is much appreciated.

I really loved this game! The art style was cute and the games were very fun! My main issue was that I never knew why I was getting a game over; usually it would happen in the middle of the minigame while I was doing well so maybe an explanation of why the player lost would be helpful! Additionally sometimes if you finished a puzzle the game wouldnt register it and I would have to remove the parts and put them back in and it was somewhat frustrating. Lastly, when the game would switch back to the asteroid game sometimes I would be hit with 5 asteroids in a row without any time to react which was difficult. But overall this was one of my favorite games from the jam and you guys did an amazing job! :D. I hope one day to reach the ending!

Thanks a lot for your feedback! You are right it has issues with the game over because the game (even the quick-fixed version) is not finished. This was mainly because it was our first game jam and we did a terrible job at managing our time. We are planning on updating a finished version later on so if you want you can follow the progress on GitHub if you wish.

Also, thanks for letting us know the bugs you encountered, we will work on them for the finished version whenever we have time.

One last thing, you probably "finished" the game as in you didn't die. The plan was to make the game finish whenever you finish the visual novel game. However, because of some sloppy code, you are not showed the last frame from the visual novel and are directed to the Game Over screen directly. This will obviously be fixed but you at least you know that you didn't die. We will add a health bar for this matter.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated! It really does warm our hearts to read such an enthusiastic review. Thanks!

Such a cool game concept, and very well executed! How you managed to do 4 functional games in so little time?!! The art style is very cute too. Loved it!!

Hey! Thank you very much! It was indeed very hard to manage but it was a super fun experience. We were 8 people total working so we managed to split the work and make something cool, even if not completely functional.
